Self-education online

When I write interviews with successful people in my field, they all have one thing in common. Everyone is constantly learning . There are too many articles discussing educational courses. Therefore, I applied two criteria for this article. All the mentioned educational programs are free and in Czech . That’s why you won’t find links to the otherwise great Linda or Coursera here. I myself am constantly looking for opportunities to learn something new and I am happy to share my experience. Plus, you get the perspective of someone who has created 4 paid online courses himself, has his own free educational content, and has been self-educating for over 15 years.

How to study?

We all remember something like study plans from school. The classical school as such has many bad ideas. But the study plan does not belong to them. Studying requires regularity and routine. In most courses, and especially those on the Internet, there is no threat of failing the exam for an undelivered seminar. Therefore, you need to plan your studies and motivate yourself. Use the calendar or Freelo and make your education a routine . Personally, it has worked for me to have one evening a week reserved for education.

Let’s just do the math. Find 2 to 4 hours of self-education per week. There are 52 weeks in a year. That makes 104 to 208 educational hours per year. One can already learn enough.

Semesters are another good idea from classical education. When you already have a set time, you also have an estimate of what can be learned in a certain period of time. Each semester ends with an exam period, but we could also do some evaluation. You can, for example, test the acquired experience on a smaller project. Make a website in Python, make a video, paint a picture for your living room or organize a concert for the family.

Every year is followed by holidays. So some form of reward. Therefore, do not forget to reward yourself with something after a successful semester. Maybe something you want to buy for a long time, but you regret spending money on it.

Online or offline?
The boom time of paid online courses is over. It’s You agent email list Tube’s fault. Lesser quality tutors have worked their way up and their free content already has value. Experienced lecturers, on the other hand, validate their value on YouTube by demonstrating their knowledge. But there are many lecturers, so you can build a course for yourself only from free content. That’s why most people don’t want to pay 1500 CZK for two or three hours of video.

Offline courses mean a cost to the lecturer for each presentation. Offline courses are really rare for free. However, it is often possible to visit demonstration classes and from them you can get an idea of whether it is worth the money. In my semester there are online courses and always at least one offline .

What to learn:

It is also a sad truth that classical education has a curriculum dating back to the dark ages. Instead of developing curiosity, creativity and self-awareness, they focus on memorizing patterns or exact dates of events. They simply do not take into account the 21st century and the rise of technology.. The most important subject in your first semester should be how to actually learn.

Jan Kohout
may discourage you with his age, which is lower than all our readers combined :). But who deals with education techniques the most ? Clearly! Students . He doesn’t boil water, his content is completely free, so definitely give him a chance and play his videos.

MetaLearning
is firmly connected to its author and his story. Honza was doing a doctorate in IT and he collapsed while doing so. In convalescence, he could only work a few dozen minutes a day . That is why he started using techniques that enabled him to function and he will share them with you. Today, however, you can find many other topics on the channel.

How to build your semester?

What do you need for your job?
Technologies are constantly evolving. New software versions are released every now and then and bring new functions that make work more efficient. It’s a shame to ignore the new function and do it as you are used to. For example, our VPS Center receives an update that brings new functions and speeds up work with servers every 2 months.

Technologies will help you organize your work, take top 5 mistakes that reduce website ranking in search engines better notes or save lecture notes. Mind maps help you organize your thoughts or you can measure your learning time and get feedback on how active you are.

Freelo – Task and project management tool

Join, invite your team and clients, divide the work and watch the tasks go into motion.

But everything in moderation.

What will you need for your job?
Whether you want to move in a classic vertical (deputy – director) or horizontal (junior – senior) career path, you cannot do without additional knowledge. Therefore, think about the future and include something for your future career in your semester.

What do you want to learn for fun?
Have you always wanted to learn to play the guitar, crochet, cook, paint, speak, write or improvise? Why not. Don’t forget to include something for fun in your study plan. It is especially important in the first two semesters, when you have not yet fully mastered the routines of self-education.

Online
I have already mentioned YouTube several times in the article, and no one will be surprised to find a lot of content on it. That’s why you’ll find a lot of my recommended content right there. But YouTube is not everything . If you want something more from an online course, you can also look at other resources. These can be divided into individuals presenting mostly a narrow field and course aggregators, where different lecturers offer their courses in one place.
